A resident was on his daily rounds and was examining a new patient.

The resident started his examination by asking the patient, very politely, “What brought you to the hospital?”

The patient replied, “An ambulance.”

Hello Case Med,

I hope everyone had a refreshing spring break and an excellent St. Patrick’s Day. If your vacation was anything like mine, it was probably way too much fun and adjusting back to reality may be difficult for you as well. Although we are back in the grind, it doesn’t mean that we will be without fun outlets from academia for the rest of the year!

Remember that Second Look Weekend is coming up mid-April. All medical students are encouraged to attend. This is a great opportunity to engage prospective students and to show them how tight-knit the Case Med family is. Like last year, the events will be held at the InterContinental Hotel and Conference Center at Cleveland Clinic and The Corner Alley. Let’s make sure that we have a great presence from all classes!

I’m also very excited to announce that several students and I have been working diligently to resume the Case Med Relay For Life Team! The School of Medicine hasn’t had a team for two years and we are proud to restart the tradition. If you are not familiar with Relay For Life, it is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society to support research in the fight against cancer. Don’t worry, no running is mandatory! It will be a day of eating and entertainment with your fellow Case Western peers. The actual relay will be held on April 20th, but we will have several fundraising events leading up to the main event. We’re having a Jolly Scholar kick-off party next week on the 27th with discounts for medical students, Penny Wars between the societies (with prizes for the winning society), t-shirt sales, and other events to be announced! This is all for a good cause, fighting cancer, so come out and party with a purpose. Don’t forget to register online with the “Case Med Students and Faculty” team. Go to www.relayforlife.org and search for “Case Med” in the team name box. Join the team and start collecting donations from friends and family!
