- Improve healthcare for Asians and Pacific Islanders (API) – especially Asian immigrants and refugees in the Cleveland metropolitan area.
- Foster cultural sensitivity and understanding.
- Encourage student leadership and community engagement on API issues.
Key Events:
- Volunteer and shadow at the International Community Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center that serves the API population in Cleveland.
- Community Health Screenings at events such as the Women's Health Day, Men's Health Day, Cleveland Asian Festival, flu clinics, and Lunar New Year Festival.
- Attend APAMSA national conferences and meet physicians as well as medical students across the US.
- Physician panels with local physicians from the API community.
- Health Literacy Education Talks, particularly on Hepatitis B awareness.
- Social events (dumpling making night, Lunar New Year potluck, Crazy Rich Asians movie night, and more!)
Electives:
- Medical Mandarin - learn how to do a physical exam and practice other health vocabulary in Mandarin.
- Healthcare in Asiatown - shadow at the International Community Health Center, practice your physical exam/history taking skills with patients, and learn how to write SOAP notes.
