H.O.P.E.4
Health. Opportunity. Peace. Exposure. Expectation. Equality. Equity.

H.O.P.E.4 is a student initiative that utilizes mindfulness, writing, reflection, and group activities to help combat recidivism of at-risk, urban youth from Fairfax and its surrounding communities. The program delivers seven classroom-based sessions specifically designed to parallel a person ascending Maslow’s hierarchy of needs – i.e. incorporating sessions addressing safety needs and building your own support circle, belongingness and love needs, esteem needs, need to know and understand, and self-actualization.

As of now, we have a team of five M2s leading the program at two locations, the Metzenbaum center (as part of the jail diversion initiative of Cuyahoga County) and Cuyahoga County juvenile detention center (working with youth inmates). At each location, we run one 1-hour session per week, working with about 12-15 youth at a time. Feedback from the students themselves has been incredibly positive, saying that they really enjoy the sessions and will try to incorporate what they learned from these into their lives.

We hope to bring in new volunteers and fresh ideas to aid our efforts in making H.O.P.E.4 a longitudinal outreach program at CWRU!

Feel free to reach out to our group's leaders with any questions or if you're interested in volunteering:
