North Star Collaborative Anatomy Camp
The North Star Collaborative (NSC) is a youth development partnership between Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Laurel School. The vision of NSC is to assist in breaking the cycle of poverty by offering a holistic and long-term commitment (a minimum of 13 years) to participants — a cohort of girls in the high school graduating classes of 2018 and 2019 — with the goal of providing access to resources and support from fourth grade through the attainment of a four-year college degree.
Medical students are paired with the girls and have an opportunity to work with them as "wellness mentors" by participating in bimonthly events, performing physical exams, teaching the girls about their bodies and health, learning to communicate with this special population and empowering the girls to make healthy choices.
