Obesity Medicine Interest Group
OUR MISSION
WHY OBESITY MEDICINE?
In order to tackle the increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity in the United States, all emerging physicians ought to be equipped to prevent, address, and manage obesity. The obesity medicine interest group exists both to introduce students to the field of obesity medicine and to offer students obesity-related career and research opportunities across specialties through organized seminars/discussions, mentored relationships with expert clinicians in this area, and the development of an obesity medicine elective course. Through these objectives, we hope to advocate on behalf of our future patients in improving access to obesity treatment and reducing weight bias in medicine.
- Increase obesity education opportunities and foster community partnerships in order to advocate for increased awareness of and access to obesity care
- Learn about the physician’s role in obesity management within the context of a multidisciplinary team
- Work to eliminate weight bias in the healthcare setting
