Primary care progress
Primary Care Progress is a national organization who’s goal is to promote primary care in the community. CWRU’s Chapter is an inter professional group of students including medical, PA, nursing (grad and undergrad), and social work students. Our goal is to find opportunities in the community for promoting primary care and addressing barriers to social determinants of health. We previously have worked at the Greater Cleveland Foodbank during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of our current projects is Just Walk, a Walk with a Doc program where we take monthly walks with community members, health providers, and health professional students to promote healthy living and make health more accessible. We have also recently partnered with A Vision of Change (AVOC), a non-profit organization of Community Health Workers, to help with bimonthly fresh food packaging/distribution. We are also working with AVOC and the Cuyahoga County Board of Health at their COVID vaccine clinics to talk about vaccine hesitancy and provide gift card incentives to community members getting their first vaccine. Our future project that we are working on is helping East Mount Zion Baptist Church to organize a health fair.
Mission Statement:
Intro: Through the development of an inter-professional network that advocates for primary care progress and practices civic engagement, sustainable community change can be achieved. Our group will strive to promote primary care and build community between both healthcare professionals and our surrounding area.
Vision: Our vision is to improve health by cultivating public awareness of the importance of primary care and to be community advocates regarding pressing issues affecting their wellness. We commit to continuously adapt to the challenges faced by our society and will work to fulfill our civic duty by implementing community outreach programs.
Core Values:
Compassion (video) – We had a hard time defining this word. We provided current PCP members with a list of words and had them select 10 words that they felt were most important. Compassion was the number one word selected. We thought instead of defining it we could make a short video of students and faculty describing faculty compassion in their own words.
Accountability Accepting and demonstrating responsibility of our actions to ourselves, team members, and the society.
Teamwork Coordinated efforts to pursue common interests by collaborating individual and collective adeptness.
Community Outreach Identifying unmet needs within our surrounding area and strengthening the infrastructure and relationships within the existing community. This can be accomplished by delivering sustainable health-focused care, education, and appropriate services.
Diversity Encompassing recognition, respect, and acceptance of individual differences (including race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, etc.) to promote collective achievement.
