Welcome!
Dear Class of 2024,
We are both proud and delighted to welcome you to Cleveland and Case Western Reserve University SOM! You have worked extremely hard, endured, and now you are here, at the dawn of your formal medical education. Congratulations on your well-deserved achievement!
First year is hectic, not only are you getting acclimated to a new city (where are the good hairstylists?), you are also trying to figure out if lecture is high-yield, when to start Anki, how to be a good IQ member and generally be a medical student. It’s a lot. We know and that is why this M1 handbook exists. The first edition was released by the previous SNMA/LMSA board (shout out to Joseph Laseter specifically for spearheading the project) and now you get your own free copy of the SNMA/LMSA M1 handbook, second edition!
We strive to provide some suggestions that may help you, your peers, and, most importantly, your sanity over the next two years. Your class will be entering the medical field in a state of severe flux, a condition that will probably remain for years to come. Regardless of the array of complexities and Zoom session difficulties, know that SNMA/LMSA is here to support and bolster you. We realize that your class’ challenges are unique. As you venture out on your journey here, in the thick of a global pandemic and charged social climate, we hope this handbook will serve you well.
Yours in SNMA/LMSA,
Sophia Toe, Co-President Class of 2023
Mina Huerta, Co-President Class of 2023
Obichi Onwukwe, Co-Vice President Class of 2023
Elizabeth Obi, Co-Vice President Class of 2023
and the SNMA/LMSA 2020-2021 Executive Board
